About this Section:
Guard rails come in a number of different of sizes and shapes. Most
conveyors have several choices available.
Some things to consider when adding guard rail.
- Their primary purpose is prevent product from falling off the
conveyor. However, sometimes they may be used to help guide the
product.
- If a guard rail is used to guide product, caution should be taken. If
too many products, especially heavy items, are forced up against the
guard rail they may overload the drive.
- When product is up against a guard rail, it can hinder the flow
of that product depending on a variety of product and conveyor drive
factors. Consult us if you believe your product needs to rest against or be
guided by the guard rails.
- If you have a considerable variance of product heights, special
consideration may be required to ensure low products don't go underneath
the rail and the guard is sufficient to protect tall products from
falling off.
- Product overhanging the conveyor and the ability for the product to
negotiate a curve must also be considered when selecting the type of
guard rail.
- Curves should nearly always have a guard rail mounted to the outside
radius to prevent product from falling off.
